Obituary for Donna Swann

Donna Lee Johnson Swann, resident of Ponca City, passed away June 6, 2015. She was 84.

Donna was born on March 20, 1931 in Oklahoma City to Chester F. Johnson and Erma O. Bailey. Donna grew up in Corpus Christi, TX and at the age of 17, graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1948. After graduation, she attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX and took one year of pre-med courses. After her marriage to Johnie Swann on August 27, 1949, she moved to Bethany, OK where she continued her pre-med studies until the birth of her first son, Mark, in 1951. In 1954, Donna moved to Ponca City and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph’s Regional Hospital where she later entered into the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. After graduation in 1963 and the birth of two more children, Rebecca and Mike, she accepted a position as a Registered Nurse with the State of Oklahoma at Griffin Memorial Mental Hospital in Norman, OK. Donna had two more children, Tim, in 1966 and Phillip, in 1969. Donna worked at Griffin Memorial Hospital until her retirement in January of 1991.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Clark, of Corpus Christi, TX, sons, Mark A. Swann, Sherwood, OR, Michael K. Swann, Norman, OK, Timothy P. Swann, Norman, OK, Phillip T. Swann, Norman, OK, daughter, Rebecca Blakeburn, of Ponca City, OK, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donna will be available for viewing Thursday, June 11th until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ponca City followed by a graveside service at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City.
