Don Niemann, Jr. passed away quietly on Thursday, February 15 afternoon at 78 years of age. He was the son of Don Niemann, Senior of Ponca City who served in the Army Air Corp and his wife Joan Niemann. Don was born on September 1, 1945 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Don attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Ponca City and graduated from OSU with an Agriculture Economics Degree in 1967. After college Don served his country during the VietNam War as an Army Staff Sergeant from 1968 to 1970. Several fellow soldiers commented through the years that the only reason they survived VietNam was because of Don Niemann. While serving in VietNam Don received the National Defense Medal, the VietNam Service Medal, the VietNam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for Heroism, the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Don founded, owned, and operated Niemann Fencing Company for over 40 years in Ponca City before retiring in 2019. His integrity as a businessman and his attention to detail made his fence company one of the best in the area. He built many projects for ConocoPhillips through the years and he had the reputation of getting each job done to its particular specifications which made his business a success for decades. Don received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Ponca City, Rotary Club and he was recognized several years for outstanding service and performance from Conoco Phillips.

Don was involved in the VFW, American Legion, the VietNam Veterans of America and he was a member of the Osage Indian Tribe. The Osage Veterans Memorial in Pawhuska, Oklahoma honors both Don and his father as being members of the Osage Tribe and for serving our country.
