JoAnn was born on December 16, 1935 to Hetzel Breckenridge and Naomi Nelson Breckenridge in Kremlin, OK. On November 9, 1953, she married the love of her life, Roy Watkins. To their union, they were blessed with five daughters. Early on, JoAnn worked at Southwestern Bell, Ben Franklin Stores, and Mel’s Clothing Store. However, her passion for beautifying herself and others would lead her to leave retail and attend Beauty School in 1981. After cosmetology school, she opened JoAnn’s Hair Fashions, owning and operating her home salon until her retirement in 1989. When she wasn’t at the salon, she would often be engaged in her other passion, shopping. JoAnn loved finding a good bargain whether at a garage sale or a thrift store while sipping on a Sonic Coke. She would share her bargains with others and put on garage sales at her own home. JoAnn also enjoyed home decorating, tending to her flowers, and dancing to country music. She was an excellent cook and shared that skill with her five lovely daughters.
