David “Chris” Simmons

Chris Simmons, age 69, long time resident of Ponca City passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Winfield, Kansas.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at 1 pm Sat, February 11, 2017 at the VFW (2821 E Prospect Ave). Following the memorial ceremony, he will be laid to rest with military honors at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Chris was born on April 9, 1947 to Lester “Shorty” Simmons and Grace Parkison in Ponca City, OK. Chris grew up in Ponca City, graduating from Ponca City High School in 1965. Following high school Chris enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served 4 years, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his time in the Air Force, Chris attended Northern Oklahoma College before completing his undergraduate studies at Oklahoma State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business. Chris worked as an accounting manager at Albertson’s Distribution facility before his retirement.

Survivors include his brothers Danny Simmons of Missouri, and Kevin Simmons of Stillwater, OK: sons Billy Simmons of Las Vegas, NV, Tracy Simmons of VA, and Chad Simmons of Eufaula, OK, as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Chris was preceded in death by his parents.
