Obituary for David Sanderfer

David Marshall Sanderfer

David was born January 14, 1919 in Blue Mountain, Arkansas to Jesse Martin and Emma Adeline Sawyer Sanderfer. He passed from this life on December 31, 2013 in the Ponca City Nursing Home at the age of 94, just 14 days prior to his 95thbirthday.

He married Myrtle Hurn on April 16, 1941 in Danville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2006. To that union were born six children, two of whom preceded him in death, Louise and Don.

David entered the United States Army on September 3, 1942. He served as a specialist sharp-shooter and with the military police. He was also assigned as a radio operator to headquarters of an infantry battalion. He was responsible for the sending and receiving of equipment and was able to send up to 23 words per minute using International Morse Code. He was also responsible for maintaining contact with all companies in battalion and with the regimental headquarters. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the European, Africa, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After an honorable discharge from the Army on October 16, 1945, he was self-employed as a farmer and welder.

He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing with his father and brothers in his younger days.

He is survived by one sister, Vivian Conway of Newberg, Oregon and three daughters and one son; Eva Ennis and husband Rollie of Ardmore, Oklahoma, John Sanderfer and wife Helen of Springfield, Missouri, Wanda Shelton and husband, Tim of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Nona Vance and husband Dale of Pawnee, Oklahoma. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and one great-great grandchild as well as many other relatives.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Fairfax First Osage Baptist Church fellowship hall.
