Obituary for Darla Frederick

Darla Bea Frederick of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell at the age of 54 years.

Darla Bea Frederick was born on February 24, 1960, in Salida, Colorado, to Norman B. and Stella Christine (Kelley) Shoemate. She lived in Salida, Colorado, until the age of five when she moved with her family to Kismet, Kansas. She attended schools at Kismet and Liberal, Kansas. Following her education she married Ray Frederick on March 17, 1979, in Park City, Kansas, and they made their home in Liberal, Kansas. She served her family as a homemaker as well as working for Koehn Mobile Homes and H&R Block. In August 2013, they moved to Blackwell to make their home. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, camping, vacationing, and sight seeing. She also loved spending time with her family and friends planning parties, birthdays, anniversaries, showers, and caretaking for ill family members.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Frederick of Blackwell; one son, Dustin Frederick and wife Kim of Sedgwick, Kansas; two grandsons, Braedyn and Daelyn Frederick of Sedgwick, Kansas; one sister, Christine Breshears of Clinton, Missouri; one brother, Carl Shoemate, and wife Paula of Santaquin, Utah; her mother, Stella Shoemate, of Mulvane, Kansas; One God Daughter, Jessika Jolyn Ellard Grant of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Norman Sterling Shoemate; and one brother in law, Jimmie Breshears.

Memorial services are scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Matt Smith of the Immanuel Baptist Church officiating.

Memorials have been established in her memory with Wounded Warrior Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer Association in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
