Danny Lee Farrington of Blackwell, Oklahoma, departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 81 years. He was lovingly watched over by his granddaughter, Shalyn Farrington-Monsees, a front-line nurse, as he fought the Covid-19 virus. His entire medical team at St. Mary’s in Enid, OK went above and beyond in his care.

Danny was born on September 10, 1939, in Blackwell to Theodore and Georgia Mae (Johns) Farrington. He grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools. While in school he participated and enjoyed five years of wrestling. Following graduation, he furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa and Eastern New Mexico State University in Portales, New Mexico. During his junior year in 1957, he began working for Fey’s IGA, and in 1960 with Safeway Supermarket. He was transferred to nine towns in three states, Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico. While working for Safeway he began as a sacker and worked his way to store manager. In 1985 Safeway sold the El Paso Division to Furr’s Supermarket and he began working for Furr’s in Portales. He was an usher at the church he attended and a board member at Portales, New Mexico. He attended Victory Fellowship at Blackwell and served as an usher there. He also assisted with Camp Fire Girls as a board member and camp supervisor. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and working on his cars. While working in Guymon he participated on a bowling team. He married Christine Dunsworth on July 10, 1979, in Portales and they lived there for sixteen years. The couple moved to Blackwell in 1995 to be near his mother. Following their return, he worked for Shepherds, Apple Market and Horner’s. In 2004 he began enjoying retirement. His wife preceded him in death on June 13, 2016, and he continued to make Blackwell his home.

He is survived by two sons, Scott Farrington and wife Brenda of Tonkawa, and Mark Farrington of Beaver; a daughter, Kelly Farrington of Stillwater; four step-sons, Rick Nelson and wife Cindy of Farmington, New Mexico, Richard Nelson of Punta Gorda, Florida, Randy Nelson and wife Allison of Parrish, Florida, and Rodney Nelson and wife Jennifer of Galveston, Texas; four grandchildren, Dakota Farrington of Beaver, Shalyn Farrington-Monsees of Enid, Dace Farrington of Beaver, and James Farrington of Ponca City; eleven great step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; two nephews, two nieces and many many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Z. and Georgia Mae Farrington; and brother, Floyd Allen Farrington.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 21st in the Blackwell Cemetery with Rev. Carolyn Rickner officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery. Masks are required due to the possible exposure of Covid-19.
