Obituary for Clarence Shaw

Clarence Robert Shaw, resident of Ponca City, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was 88.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doyle Sharp, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Goad, Steve Miner, Steve Miner II, Steve Rice, Gene Wittum, and Jerry Wittum. Serving as honorary pallbearers Sonny Rice, Ray Lewis, and Gene Jennings.

Clarence was born December 14, 1925, in Newkirk, Ok., to Arthur and Jessie Shaw. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1944 and immediately entered the service and trained at Camp Hood, Tx. His unit served under the direction of General Patton in WW II.

Upon his return home, he attended Oklahoma State University and also worked at his family’s business, Shaw’s Parts and Machine Shop. On July 25, 1952 he married Lois Jean Walker and they celebrated 55 years together until her unexpected passing in December 2007. In 1969, he purchased the firm from his parents. After liquidating the business in 1980, he worked for the Huffy Bicycle Plant and the City of Ponca City Motor Pool before retiring in 1995.

Throughout his lifetime, Clarence enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, raising and showing French Alpine Dairy goats and watching Women’s softball and basketball.

Survivors include a sister, Maxine Lewis and husband Ray of Bartlesville, three daughters, Diane Shaw of Hurst, TX., Darlene Miner of Denver, PA., and Darla Christian and husband Dennis of Ponca City; niece, Brenda Lewis of Bartlesville, grandchildren, Steven Miner II, Michelle Johnson, Stefanie Throneberry and Jenny Christian; five great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Rebekah Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a nephew and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends at Trout Funeral Home in the chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
