Chuck W. Sprague

May 7, 1934 – February 21, 2022

Charles Walton Sprague left this world to be with his precious Lord and Savior on February 21, 2022. Charles (also affectionately known as Chuck, Chuckles, and Chubby) was born on May 7, 1934 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma to John and Allie Sprague. He grew up in Chelsea and attended Chelsea Public Schools. Upon graduation, Charles entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a Radioman 2nd Class for four years. After serving in the Navy, he attended Central State University. Shortly after that, he became a part-owner of Sonic Drive-In in Blackwell, Oklahoma and eventually became sole owner. He owned Sonic for 45 years.

Chuck married the love of his life, Diane Scott, on July 6, 1964 in Blackwell where he resided for about 42 years. They also established their home in Tonkawa, Stillwater, and Owasso. While in Blackwell, Chuck was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Blackwell Public Schools School Board, and Chamber of Commerce board. He was also on the board of directors for the Blackwell Country Club and the Blackwell Industrial Authority.

The other loves of Chuck’s life were his son Scott, daughter Jennifer, and grandchildren, Alyson, Trevor, and Parker. They were truly his pride and joy, and his grandchildren will always sing his praises for all that he taught them and the precious time he spent with them.

Aside from his family, Chuck also enjoyed walking (he walked about six miles each day for about forty years), golfing, and nature.

Chuck made a tremendous impact on pretty much every person he met in his life. He loved saying to people, “Thank you for who you are and what you do” and that they were a blessing. He truly made everyone he met feel special.

He is survived by his wife Diane Sprague; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Pam Sprague of Blackwell, OK; daughter, Jennifer (Sprague) Clarida of Edmond, OK; three grandchildren: Alyson (and Christian) Wood of Reno, Nevada, Trevor Clarida of Oklahoma City, OK, and Parker Clarida of Stillwater, OK; and one sister, Bobbi Schwaesdall of Greenbrier, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Teddy, his parents, John and Allie Sprague, six brothers, Jack, Eugene, William, Johnny, Paul, and Ted; and four sisters, Doris, Geraldine, Bonnie, and Wanda.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 1st in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with James W. Roberts officiating.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
