Obituary for Catherine Shupe

Catherine Valdez (Eyler) Shupe was born on December 13, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Walter Eyler and Isabel Valdez Eyler. Catherine (Cathy) was one of four children and attended schools in Corpus Christi. Cathy died at her home in Ponca City, Oklahoma on September 1, 2015 with the care and support of family, friends, caregivers and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma.

As a young woman, Cathy met Russell D. Shupe while residing in Houston, Texas. After a short courtship, Cathy and Russell were married on April 10, 1971.

Cathy and Russell moved to Ponca City in 1978, where Cathy participated in a variety of activities. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Oklahoma State University. Cathy loved creating flower and vegetable gardens in her yard and was a resource of knowledge to many on the care of flowers, trees and vegetables. Cathy also enjoyed oil painting and learned to do so through the Ponca City Art Center and has displayed her paintings in area shows. She also liked crocheting, sewing and embroidery work. Cathy enjoyed participating in local bridge clubs, attending and hosting tea parties and traveling with family and friends.

Prior to Cathy’s recent illness, she regularly attended church at Northeast Baptist since 1978 and Cathy enjoyed the support and fellowship of her Sunday School class and church family. Cathy was an avid animal lover and had a special love of Persian Cats and throughout her adult life, always had a beautiful Persian.

Preceding Cathy in death was her husband, Dr. Russell D. Shupe, parents, two brothers, Bobby Eyler and Walter Eyler, nephew Albert Molina and brother-in-law, Royce McHargue.

Survivors include sister, Carmen Molina of Corpus Christi, TX, sister-in-law Jan McHargue of Arkansas City, Kansas, nieces, Sonja Molina and Carmen Isabel Molina of Corpus Christi and Kristy Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, nephews, Vince Molina, Jr. and Vicente Rush of Georgia and Mark Molina of Corpus Christi, Neko and numerous cousins and friends.

A visitation and viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2015 at Grace Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City with the Rev. Dr. Larry Nigh presiding. Burial will follow at the Newkirk, Oklahoma Cemetery.

Pall bearers include: Greg Wood, Don Wood, Gary Wood, Darren Wood, Seth Wood and Caleb Wood.
