Carolyn Edwards

October 14, 1935 – April 15, 2020

Carolyn Sue Edwards, resident of Ponca City Oklahoma, passed away in Ponca City on April 15th, 2020. She was 84. There will be no visitation or service at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Carolyn was born to Merle Albert and Marvel Lois (Mount) Talbott on October 14th, 1935, on the family farm in Eagle Township, east of Yale, Oklahoma. She was the seventh of ten children. Carolyn attended Eagle School and graduated from Yale High School in 1953. She graduated nursing school from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ponca City in 1957 and began her career as a Registered Nurse at the hospital and in medical offices in Ponca City. She completed her nursing career at the medical clinic at Conoco, Inc. in Ponca City. She retired in 1994 after 15 years of service.

She married Don Luther Edwards on March 1, 1958 in the chapel at First Christian Church in Ponca City. They have four children, Jason Edwards, Don Edwards, Eric Edwards, and Anne Edwards Hlasney. Carolyn was a dedicated wife and mother. She established loving homes in many locations including Lubbock, TX, Germany, Lake Charles, LA, Denver, CO, Ulceby, England, and Ponca City.

Carolyn and Don joined First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Ponca City in 1967. Carolyn was an active member serving as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, board member, and she delivered communion to homebound members who could not attend church. Carolyn cherished her church home and church family. In recent years, she enjoyed the visits and communion delivered to her by her FCC family.

Carolyn is remembered as a loving and supportive mother. She placed special importance on hosting and attending family gatherings and sharing her friends with her family. She had close and loving relationships with her parents and 9 siblings and passed on that love of family to her children.

Carolyn treasured her role as a grandmother! She especially loved holding and rocking her grandbabies. As her grandchildren grew, she had a never-ending supply of chocolate chip cookies in her cookie jar and transformed her sunroom and backyard into a wonderful place for them to play and make memories. A house full of family and friends brought Carolyn great joy.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Jason Edwards and wife Kim, Don Edwards and wife Peggy, Eric Edwards and wife Mitzi Pemberton, daughter, Anne Edwards Hlasney and husband Todd; grandchildren: Joshua Edwards and wife Whitney, Aimee Edwards Holman and husband John, Christopher Edwards, Ethan Edwards, Amanda Edwards, Benjamin Edwards, Allison Edwards, Taylor Pemberton and wife Kaylee, Ethan Deibler, Tanner Hlasney, Luke Hlasney, and Henley Hlasney; great grandchildren: Reese Edwards, Cooper Edwards, Jordan Kinnard, Zoie Brown, Charlotte Pemberton, and Hayes Carolyn Holman; sisters Donna Thrasher and Nancy Ross, and brothers John Talbott, and David Joe Talbott.
