Bobby Joe Swopes

November 1, 1944 – June 14, 2019

A new day has dawned for our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. After a fight with the Big C, Bobby Joe Swopes of Shidler, Oklahoma won’t be baling hay or feeding those hungry cattle anymore. He will be thoroughly missed.

Bob started his life on November 1, 1944 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He attended school in Shidler. Later he joined the Marines and served from 1962-1966 at which time he was honorably discharged.

Returning home, he met and married Nora Kay Mains in 1978 and settled in and around the Webb City/Shidler area. He did custom baling there. Nora Kay passed away in 1994, he continued on with his cattle and baling after that.

He was preceded in death by his parents R.G and Doris Swopes and his brother Fred.

He leaves behind lost of very special friends as well as multiple relatives and his very faithful side kick “Jack”.

Funeral services under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel will be held at the Methodist Church of Shidler, on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. The minister Troy Bigeagle will officiate. Casketbearers will include Gary Marshall, John Jones, JP Jones, Marty Ehrlich, Dave Cheves, and Mark Steirwalt. Honorary bearers are Lee Briggs, Brian Kingsbury and Kenny Kingsbury. Burial will follow immediately, at the Foraker Cemetery.

Friends are welcome to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The family has asked that donations in his name be made to the Rural Fire Department of your choice or to the Journey Home of Bartlesville at 900 NE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
