Bill Roland – Veteran

October 14, 1950 – October 8, 2017

William ”Bill” Roland, 64, formerly of Ponca City went to catch a breeze with his Lord Sunday, October 8, 2017. He was born on October 14, 1952 in Wichita, KS to Clyde N. and Mary Lou Parker Roland.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the Ranch Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Ryan pastor, officiating. Visitation may be done Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City, OK. The family has requested any memorial donations be made to Ranch Drive Baptist Church 2985 S. Ranch Drive Ponca City, OK 74601, and will be at The Big Acres.

Bill came to Ponca in 1969. In 1971, he served a tour of Duty in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1975. Bill retired from the City of Tulsa as the President of the AFSCME Union and a heavy Equipment Operator in November of 2010. Bill enjoyed as he would put it ”catching a breeze” on his Harley, spending time with his family, volunteering at the Disabled Veterans Center and playing Santa Clause in Tulsa for years. He attended the Ranch Drive Baptist Church when he was in Ponca City. Bill was also a Bronze member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Bill is survived by 1 daughter, Michele Brandt of Bixby, OK, dad, Clyde Roland of Ponca City, OK, 2 brothers: Collie Roland and wife Sheri of Clearwater, KS, Tom Roland and wife Erin of Odessa, TX, 1 sister, Becky Fowler and husband Joe of Ponca City, OK, 1 grandson, Austin Robedeaux of Rapid City, South Dakota and children who called him dad, Dara Quimby and Shayne Grier. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his birth mother Mary Lou and the mother who raised him, Phyllis Roland.
