April 30, 1915 – May 19, 2018

Bernice Irene Walthall, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away May 19, 2018 at Via Christi (Ascension). Born April 30, 1915 in Hill County, Texas to Thomas Leonidas Bush and Elizabeth Shelton Bush, she was the third child in a family of twelve. She married Mark Walthall and as teens they moved to Ponca City to find work. They had two sons, Philip Dale and Ralph Dean. They were married over 70 years until Mark’s death in 2004.

Bernice was a talented china painter and a longtime member and past president of the Pioneer China Painters organization.

She is survived by her older son Philip Dale and wife Fran of Vail, Arizona, parents of Tammy and Janet in Washington state along with great-grandchildren Anna and Aric.

Her son Ralph Walthall passed away last year at the VA home in Winfield, Kansas.

A memorial ceremony will be held at Via Christi in the chapel at 11 am on Thursday, May 24, 2018. A graveside ceremony will follow at 2 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City where she will be laid to rest with her husband Mark and her son Ralph. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Ponca City.
