Aural Geneva Niehaus

(February 12, 1918 – August 5, 2016)

Aural Geneva Niehaus of Plainview, Texas, died early Friday morning, August 5, 2016, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 98 years.

Aural Geneva Niehaus was born on February 12, 1918, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Robert William and Ella Bernice (Appleman) Niehaus. She grew up in Plainview, Texas, where she graduated from Plainview High School. In 1941 she began working for the United States War Department immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor and moved to Washington, D.C., where she served as a secretary for the Veterans Administration at the Pentagon. In 1966 she was one of the first residents in the Watergate Apartments. She retired after thirty-three years and later moved to Blackwell to make her home. She loved her church families at Foundry Methodist in Washington, D.C. and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ponca City. She enjoyed traveling across the country with friends and was especially fond of her trip to the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle, Washington. She also enjoyed quilting and knitting and created many gifts for neighbors and friends.

She is survived by three nephews, Robert Niehaus and wife Mary Beth of Plainview, Texas, Keith Niehaus and wife Kris of Frisco, Texas, and Eugene Edwards and wife Pat of Houston, Texas; a niece, Judy Edwards of Houston, Texas; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Edwards; a brother, Carthal Niehaus; and two infant siblings.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., August 8th, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Cindy Rydell of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview, Texas, at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10th.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
