Alvin Joseph “Jack” Ciskowski, age 94, a long time resident of Ponca City passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Via Christi in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Jack was born on October 31, 1924 to Michael Joseph Ciskowski and Rose Helen (Svacha) Ciskowski in Clyde, Oklahoma. He was raised on a farm near Medford across from his grandmother. He loved crossing the road and eating her homemade pies and kolaches. He moved to Blackwell and had a job delivering meat for Turvey’s. Later, he worked in shipping and receiving for Conoco R&D until he retired. Jack was known by everyone to be talkative. It was once said that “he could get a conversation out of a fence post.”

He was very proud to have served in the Army during World War II. Jack served with the 406th field artillery group in England, France, Scotland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. During his time on the European front he served as a chaplain’s assistant, assisting with masses and burials.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alice Spoon, and four brothers, Richard, Edmond, Gordon and Marvin.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, whom he married December 31, 1959. They were married in Tulsa by his long time friend, Father Marvin Leven. With Eleanor, he helped raise a family which included four daughters, Marianne Newberry, Kathleen Fry, Rebecca Wall, and Theresa Ciskowski, and two sons, Joseph and Phillip Ciskowski. He has eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild on the way, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at Trout Funeral Home on Sunday, May 19th from 1-8pm with family present from 2-4pm and Monday, May 20th with family present from 4-6pm. A rosary wake service will be held on Monday evening, May 20th at 6:00 pm at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Jack at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Carson Krittenbrink officiating. Following the ceremony, Jack will be laid to rest at Newkirk Cemetery.
