Alonzo “Lonnie” Lee Brown, Sr. resident of Newkirk, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018. He was born on October 4, 1947 to his parents, Alonzo Brown and Anna Lee Brown in Laverne, Oklahoma. The family moved to Auburn, Washington where Lonnie graduated from high school and entered into the United States Marines. He moved back to Oklahoma after being honorably discharged from the service and started working in Liberal, Kansas. He married Donna Jean VanCleave on June 5, 1981 in Forgan, Oklahoma. Lonnie worked for Boeing as a parts clerk retiring in 2003. After retirement, Lonnie and Donna moved to Ponca City and finally settled at their home in Newkirk.

Lonnie was a faithful member of the Bible Methodist Church. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing and his favorite people to fish with were his brother and grandson. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, especially his own 1957 Chevy. He also enjoyed tinkering with computers. Any of the people Lonnie met along the way, whether through church, fishing, or tinkering, were new friends as he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Brown of Newkirk, children, Alonzo Lee Brown, Jr. of Washington, Michelle Baxter of Washington, Darrell Meredith of Topeka, Kansas, Wanda Mattox of Topeka, Kansas, Barbara Jean Matsky of Grand Junction, Colorado, Diane Mead of Washington, Kathy Earls of Beaver, Oklahoma, and Christopher Meredith of Ponca City, as well as 26 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Irma and Harry VanCleave, nephew, Brian G. Brown, brother-in-law, Joe Ecklund, and great granddaughter, Megan Meredith.

A memorial ceremony for Lonnie will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Ron McCormick officiating. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a meal and share stories following the service at the church.
