Alfred Bishop

(October 22, 1928 – March 4, 2016)

Alfred William Bishop, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord he loved on Friday, March 4, 2016.He was born on October 22, 1928 on a farm northeast of Lela to Marion Alfred Bishop and Amanda Leona (Scammerhorn) Bishop. The family bought a farm near Masham and Alfred grew up farming and ranching. He graduated from Ralston High School in 1948. On December 24, 1948 he married Edna Louise Marrs. They had a wonderful life together for 67 years. Alfred and Louise started their own farm until Alfred was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from 1952 – 1954 on Okinawa during the Korean War. Once he was discharged, they moved to Ponca City in 1955. He began working for Jim Buttram and became the office manager for Buttram Pipeline when the company formed. He worked there for 29 and a half years. He then worked for Conoco retiring in 1993.

Alfred and Louise had one daughter, Debra Kay born in 1957. The three of them were a team ever since.

Alfred was a long time member of Sunset Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer for 26 years, Usher, Sunday School Teacher and in many other roles. The family would like to thank all the care givers who helped Alfred during his years with Alzheimer’s, especially the staff of Ponca City Nursing and Rehab and Hospice of Northern Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to Sunset Baptist Church, Hospice of Northern Oklahoma or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Sunset Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Patrick Lynch, Harold Bunny, Max Ridgeway, Terry Mullenax, Justin Mullenax, and Arlie Edge. Funeral services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Honorary Casketbearers will be the Amen Class.
