Mona Raye Moyer
December 20, 1937 - August 17, 2025
Mona Raye Moyer, 87, of Blackwell, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 20, 1937, in Blackwell to Roy and Beula (Bell) McKaig, Mona spent her entire life rooted in the community she loved. In 1955, she married Wilber “Bill” Moyer, and together they shared 60 years of marriage—raising four children: William “Monte,” Mickey “Mick” Doyle, Misti Lynn, and Mathew “Matt” Todd—and building a life grounded in hard work, resilience, and truth.
Mona was a farmer’s wife, a mother, and a woman who believed in getting things done—without pretense or fuss. She worked for 15 years at ConAgra, where her dependability and no-nonsense attitude were well respected. She also gave back to her community, volunteering at the Good Buy Shoppe, Blackwell Regional Hospital, and as a longtime member of the Blackwell Methodist Church.
Mona didn’t sugarcoat things—she was honest to a fault and said exactly what she thought. That plainspoken strength defined her character and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. You always knew where you stood with Mona, and that kind of truth was both rare and valued.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: William “Monte” Moyer; Mickey “Mick” and wife Angel Moyer; and Mathew “Matt” and wife Amy Moyer.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren:
Shawn and wife Rickki Moyer, Lesa and husband Adam Webb, Amey and husband John Inman, Masie and husband Travis Peetoom, Mickey Moyer, Kale Leeper, Kolby and wife Ashley Leeper, Taylor Moyer, Matison Moyer, and Kiley and husband Josh Givings.
Also surviving her are great-grandchildren:
Mattox Moyer, Merrick Moyer, Caylyn Cunningham, Tymberlyn Cunningham, Lynlee Webb, Dylan O’Field, Kyson Cole, Annaston Inman, Ryken Inman, Kailee Peetoom, Kenzee and husband Brandon Gambrell, Trey Peetoom, Remmington Moyer, Vincent Moyer, Maia Moyer, Leo Leeper, Eleanor Leeper, Charlotte Leeper, Kross Givings, and Kreed Givings;
And great-great-grandchildren:
Natalie Peetoom, Vivian Peetoom, Colt Gambrell, and Steele Gambrell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Ray “Bill” Moyer; her daughter, Misti (Moyer) Leeper; her parents, Roy and Beula McKaig; her brother, Russel McKaig; sister-in-law, Chloe Ann McKaig; and her grandson, McKaig “Mac” Moyer.
Mona also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her fiercely independent spirit, her sharp wit, and her ability to tell it like it was.
Her life was a true testament to hard work, faith, and staying true to oneself. Though she is no longer with us, Mona's legacy lives on in the strength and stories of the family she helped shape.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 21st, at the Blackwell Methodist Church, with Rev. Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow at Blackwell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mona’s honor to the Blackwell Methodist Church and/or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, c/o Roberts & Sons Funeral Home.
