Gladys Marie Spencer of Braman, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, September 12th, 2025, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years.

Gladys Marie Spencer was born on January 8th,1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to Robert “Ray” and Irean Goodrow. She graduated from South Haven High School in South Haven, Kansas in 1956. Gladys married Delmer Spencer on July the 11th,1952, in Newkirk Oklahoma. Delmer entered the United States Army in September of 1952 and Gladys continued to live in Hunnewell, Kansas with her family. On September 9th, 1954, Delmer was discharged from the Army and they moved to Augusta, Kansas, where they resided until about 1957, when they moved to Morrice, Michigan. While living in Morrice she worked at a bank in Lansing, Michigan. In 1962 they moved to Denver, Colorado, before moving back to the Braman area in 1964. After her children reached school age, she held several meaningful jobs including: a waitress at the Oklahoman restaurant; a teller at First National Bank of Braman and BancFirst of Blackwell; and a salesperson at the London Fog outlet store in Blackwell. For many years she traveled with Delmer on wheat harvest, cooking and caring for the harvest crew. After the kids were grown she started accompanying Delmer on bean harvest, filling her free time by gathering gunny sacks full of pecans then spending her winters cracking, picking and storing them. When Delmer retired from custom cutting; they moved to Challis, Idaho where she enjoyed watching the wildlife and pursuing her hobbies. She enjoyed fishing with a cane pole, jug lining, painting ceramics, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, canning, baking cookies and making candy. Upon returning back to Braman, at Christmas time, she enjoyed bringing all her grandchildren together to bake cookies and make candy. She attended the South Haven Baptist Church where she was very active and fulfilled her mission to see that everybody felt welcome with a hug. She also enjoyed working with the kids during the craft session of Vacation Bible School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delmer Spencer, Sr.; one son, Stuart Allen Spencer; her parents; three brothers, Chester “Chet” Goodrow, Carl “Sonny” Goodrow and Lowell Goodrow; and four sisters, Opal Davis, Helda Corning, Evelyn McClain and Dorothy Goodrow.

She is survived by three sons: Delmer Spencer, Jr and his wife Jacqueline of South Haven, Kansas; Jeffery Spencer and his wife LaDonna of Braman; and Byron Spencer of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; one sister, Patricia Crewse of Shell Knob, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Carol Brown and Delaine Rupe of Claremore; grandchildren: Tiffanie Gray and husband Kevin of Stillwater, Caitlin Svoboda and husband Jordan of Wichita, Kansas, Derrick and wife Lauren Spencer of Broken Arrow; Tyler and wife Audra Spencer of Braman, Kristopher Spencer of Braman, Codey and wife Tabitha Spencer of Ponca City; Jake and Gabby Spencer of Spokane Washington, Madison Spencer of Caldwell, Idaho; Danielle Graham and her husband Caleb of Amarillo, Texas, Brandon Mackeen of Amarillo, Texas, Carl Mackeen and his wife Karisma of Blackwell, Caleb Mackeen and his wife Casey of Pendleton, California, and 24 great-grandchildren.
