Born on October 1, 1949, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Charles G.D. and Mary (Brown) Golay. Darrel was not just a man; he was a beacon of warmth, a sweet soul whose laughter could brighten the darkest of days.

In his youth, Darrel graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967, laying the foundation for a life built upon service and community. His journey took a noble turn as he proudly donned the uniform of the United States Marine Corps. From 1968 until 1970, he served valiantly, completing a tour in Vietnam that deeply shaped his character and perspective on life.

Returning to civilian life, Darrel continued his commitment to service as a police officer for the Newkirk Oklahoma Police Department, where he diligently protected and served his neighborhood. His dedication did not end there; he also worked as a security guard at Kaw Casino in Newkirk, OK, committing himself to ensure safety and security for all.

Darrel's passions were numerous, and they always led him back to nature's embrace. He found immense joy in fishing at Kaw Lake, often accompanied by his brother, where the gentle ripples of the water mirrored the harmonious relationship they shared. Whether on his pontoon boat, catfishing, hunting deer and squirrel, or foraging for morel mushrooms, Darrel had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He was known for crafting delicious fried mushrooms, a culinary delight that showcased both his love for cooking and his generous spirit.

Darrel will forever be remembered for his sweet, kind, and loving personality, as well as his inherent ability to make others laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of care, reminding all who had the privilege of knowing him of the importance of loyalty and friendship.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dena Golay, who shared countless memories with him in their home; his brothers Tex Golay and his wife Marleda of Blackwell, OK, and Butch Golay and his wife Karen of Shidler, OK; his daughter Stephanie Golay of Walla Walla, Washington; his step-daughter Vicki Howell and her husband Doug of Denton, TX; five cherished grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward.
