Bob Askew
August 27, 1937 - September 2, 2025
Bob Askew died on September 2, 2025, at the age of 88 years. He was born in Oklahoma City, August 27, 1937, to J. Floyd Askew and Eleanor Drennan Askew. His father was a real estate appraiser, and his mother taught English.
Bob graduated from Northeast High School in 1955 and received his BBA from the University of Oklahoma in 1959. He was the recipient of the Jay J. Dwyer Real Estate Scholarship in 1958-59 and graduated with a major in finance and a minor in economics. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity (ATO) and held numerous offices including Rush Chairman and Vice-President.
He married Patsy Patterson in June of 1958, and they had two children, Steve in 1959 and Scott in 1961. The family was active in Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Bob served as Treasurer and President of the church while Patsy taught Sunday School. Bob started his career in June 1959, working as a loan officer for Ponca City Savings and Loan (later known as Frontier Federal S & L) in their branch office located at NW 14th Street and Robinson Ave., OKC. (later the site of the A. P. Murrah Federal Building). He was elected as President of The Oklahoma City Savings and Loan League in 1967 and transferred to the home office in Ponca City in June 1969. Prior to leaving the S & L in 1981, Bob was Vice President, Manager, of corporate savings.
Askew obtained his real estate license in 1981 and worked for several realty firms until becoming a partner in Group One, Inc., Realtors in 1989. Bob and Faye Clark were married on February 14, 1986, and they practiced real estate together until they sold their agency in 2000 to Century 21 Group One. Bob obtained the designation of GRI and was selected as the North Central Board of Realtor "Realtor of the Year" award in 1996. He also served as President of that board as well as serving on numerous committees.
Bob enjoyed playing golf and OU sports. He and Faye were both OU graduates and held football season tickets during both the lean and the good years. They attended three Orange Bowls (including two National Championship games), many OU vs. Texas games in Dallas, as well as taking family to the OU vs. Washington game in Seattle, Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowls.
Family was especially important to Bob; he and Faye often brought their family together for extended gatherings in California, Nevada, Colorado, and Arizona. They attended all high school and college graduations for five grandchildren, as well as other special events, including baseball, basketball, various other sports, robotics, school plays and even ballet recitals.
Bob served as United Way co-drive chairman as well as serving as a board member. Likewise, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Cultural Affairs Commission of Ponca City and a long-time member of the Ponca City Country Club, where he particularly enjoyed taking friends and family out for supper or brunches.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Christopher Dee Askew and nephew, Mark Askew. Bob is survived by Faye Askew of the home and his two sons, Steve Adams of Corvallis, Oregon, and grandchildren Sean Adams of Athens, Texas and Dr. Eleanor (Ele) Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Scott Askew (Cindy Bandemer) of Houston, Texas, and grandchild Silas Askew of Golden, Colorado. Also surviving Bob are two stepsons, John Clark (Jenny) of Denver, Colorado and Craig Clark (Laura) of Atlanta, Georgia. Surviving step-grandchildren are Eben Clark and Emily Casady (Jack) of Boston, Massachusetts, Cameron Clark and Sammy Clark of Atlanta, Georgia. Step great grandchildren are Lucy Marie Casady and Walter Sterling Casady of Boston Massachusetts. Bob is also survived by his niece Sue Askew and nephews Jim Askew and Mike Askew.
Please come to the memorial “come and go” Celebration of Life which will be held in Bob’s memory on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Ponca City Country Club from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Bob’s favorite charity was St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital should you wish to make a remembrance.
