New assistant city attorney named

John Andrew has been named the new assistant city attorney for Ponca City.

City Manager Craig Stephenson announced his appointment Monday night during the City Commission meeting.

Andrew started his work Jan. 3. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa Law School in 2015 and passed the bar exam the same year.

He has been in private practice prior to accepting the Ponca City position.

Prior to attending law school, he served with the Oklahoma National Guard and deployed with the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan.

Previously, he worked for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., in the Network Operations Center as  the Assistant Operations Manager covering all of the global voice and data networks for all Wal-Mart locations.

As assistant city attorney, he will handle prosecutions for the city.
