Rogers County deputy arrested for DUI while operating patrol vehicle

A Rogers County Deputy was arrested for Driving Under the Influence while operating his patrol vehicle near his home.

According to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, Claremore Police responded to a citizen complaint involving a damaged street sign Monday morning. When police arrived at the scene, they found evidence of a vehicle hitting the sign.

Officers contacted Deputy Justin Book at his residence shortly after. During the investigation, Deputy Book admitted to taking an Ambien earlier that day. His wife also told officers he had drunk an alcoholic beverage later that morning.

Deputy Book was arrested for DUI and Failure to stop at a stop sign. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation by the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Scott Walton said, “He’s certainly been a standout employee. I’m not making excuses for what he’s done in any way, shape, or form, but I look at this man; he’s a veteran and he’s done a lot in the few years he’s been here.”

Walton said the matter will be taken seriously and will be handled with transparency.
