Volunteers are needed to help at Odd Fellows Cemetery at 1206 S Waverly on Sat May 9 beginning at 8:00am with cleanup after a recent tornado hit the cemetery. All ages and levels of ability can help that day. Refreshments will be provided by VFW Post 1201.
Weed control and simple clean up are needed and help with stones that are toppled to prepare the cemetery for Memorial Day for visitors and the placement of flags on Veterans graves.
Helpers can bring yard tools, gloves, heavy 2-wheeled dollies, shovels, hoes etc. to help if you have them.
They are not repairing stones, just resetting them. Over 200 stones were toppled or damaged by the tornado in April. Monument experts will be there to discuss damage repair.
It’s not just our responsibility to maintain the cemetery, it’s our obligation–to respect the memory of Veterans and loved ones.
