NEWKIRK — Statewide election activity officially begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday April 1 when the candidate filing period opens.
Candidates for state offices file with the State Election Board while candidates for county offices file at County Election Boards.
Kay County Election Board Secretary Carol Leaming said the following offices are on the ballot this year.
• Federal offices: U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative
• State offices: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, Supt. Of Public Instruction, State Auditor and Inspector, Commissioner of Labor, State Insurance Commissioner, Corporation Commissioner, currently held by Todd Heitt.
• District Attorney District 8 Brian Hermanson.
• Legislative Offices: Sen. Bill Coleman
• State House of Representatives District 37. Rep. Ken Luttrell.
• Judicial: Judges of the Supreme Court District 1, District 6, District 9.
• Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals: District 2, District 3.
• Judges of the Court of Civil Appeals: District 1 Office 1, District 1 Office 2, District 2 Office 1, District 2 Office 2,
Kay and Noble counties District Judge Lee Turner
Kay and Noble counties Associate District Judge: David Bandy
County Offices:
County Treasurer: Rhonda Stevens.
County Assessor: Janelle Leaming
County Commissioner District No.1 , Shane Jones
County Commissioner District No. 3. Jeff Kreger
The Kay County Election Board is located at 219 S. Main St. in Newkirk and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Filing packets for all offices are also available for download on the State Election Board’s website at oklahoma.gov/elections.
