PONCA CITY – Senator Bill Coleman, R-Ponca City, issued the following statement today in response to severe storms that caused damage across the Ponca City area overnight.

“Last night’s storms brought significant damage to parts of our community, particularly near Ponca City and at Hideaway Marina. We’re seeing reports of damaged homes, downed power lines, debris scattered across neighborhoods and property destruction, including overturned boats at the marina. I’m grateful that, based on initial reports, there have been no injuries. That is a testament to the preparedness of our residents and the quick response of our local emergency personnel.

“We know many families are waking up to assess damage and begin the difficult process of cleanup and recovery. Please know you are not alone. Our local and state partners are actively monitoring the situation and stand ready to assist as needs are identified.

“I encourage residents to remain cautious when dealing with out of state contractors who have already descended upon the area who will undoubtedly use high pressure sales tactics to get residents to make a decision based on emotion. Get multiple estimates, work with companies you know and trust to avoid becoming a victim to a scam.

“We will continue working closely with emergency management to provide updates and resources as they become available.”
