OKLAHOMA CITY –

A judge ordered a set of strict rules for former Oklahoma death row inmate Richard Glossip to follow while he is out on bond.

Glossip walked out of the Oklahoma County Detention Center on Thursday with 10 conditions tied to his freedom. He met the first condition by posting bail which was set at $500,000.

“I’m just thankful for my wife, my attorneys and just happy, just really happy,” said Glossip.

Glossip will be under the constant supervision of a GPS ankle monitor and was ordered to only live with his wife. An unusual situation for someone who spent nearly 30 years on death row.

Local attorney Noble McIntyre weighed in on the high-profile murder case.

“Certainly not typical,” said McIntyre. “I think the judges looked at the history and what’s happened with the United States Supreme Court ruling and made a decision that I’m going to grant bond.”

While Glossip is out on bond awaiting a third trial, he will have limited freedoms.

“He has a curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., he can’t have contact with any witnesses,” said McIntyre. “He can’t consume any drug or alcohol, he cannot leave the state of Oklahoma.”

Glossip also cannot contact the victim’s family. Barry Van Treese’s widow has not offered a comment publicly on Glossip’s release. While the Van Treese family has been waiting three decades for justice, Glossip has been fighting for a new trial.

“He’s maintained his innocence for 28 years,” said Corbin Brewster, attorney. “He’s finally gonna get for the first time a fair trial in this case.”

Glossip’s wife said she was overwhelmed but grateful for everyone who made her husband’s release happen. Glossip’s next court hearing is scheduled for June 23.
