Warm, dry and windy conditions are creating dangerous fire weather across Oklahoma today, prompting a Red Flag Warning.

The warning is in effect because of warm temperatures, low humidity, and winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

Near-critical to critical fire weather conditions are expected in western and northwestern Oklahoma, with elevated conditions across much of the rest of the state.

Officials urged people to avoid activities that could spark a fire and to check any recent outdoor burns to make sure they are fully extinguished.

Drivers are also being asked to make sure trailer chains are not dragging, avoid driving off-road or parking in grassy areas, and delay outdoor welding or grinding until conditions improve.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert as fire danger increases, with the reminder that one spark can quickly lead to a fast-moving wildfire.
