Ponca City Police remind citizens to be hyper vigilant about scams

The Ponca City Police Department wants to remind all of our citizens to be hyper vigilant about scams. The only change happening in this area is that there are more scams going on. Chief Don Bohon said “In the midst of all that is going on, and the fear that people have of the unknown, those who prey on others are seeing opportunity. These unscrupulous people are just upping their game and working harder to take advantage of others.”  Citizens need to watch out for the same old scams that focus on Taxes and the IRS, Social Security, contests and sweepstakes, etc. In addition we have seen and will continue to see more and more scams that focus on the government benefit payments, unemployment benefits, medical issues, insurance, and online banking. DO NOT reveal personal information, banking information, tax information etc. to anyone who calls you or emails you. If you do fall prey to one of these scams, report it to Law Enforcement immediately, and report it to your financial institutions immediately.
