NORMAN, Okla. –

The University of Oklahoma chapter of the American Association of University Professors has requested the university to explain why they put a graduate teaching assistant on administrative leave.

The group is asking the university to reinstate Mel Curth, who was placed on leave after giving a student whose essay mentioned the Bible a failing grade.

In a statement, the organization says, “OU also needs to take a strong stance defending instructors, including Mel Curth, from harassment, including reported death threats.”

News 9 spoke to the student who wrote the viral essay, Samantha Fulnecky, to learn more about her experience.
