OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — Oklahoma Human Services (OKDHS) has announced that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be suspended starting Nov. 1, 2025, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) informed OKDHS of the suspension, which affects over 684,600 Oklahomans who rely on these benefits for their monthly food purchases.
The federal shutdown began on Oct. 1, 2025, after Congress failed to agree on a budget for the 2026 fiscal year, leading to the suspension of many government operations and federally funded programs. The suspension will remain in effect until a budget resolution is reached.
OKDHS advises SNAP households to use existing funds on their EBT cards by Oct. 31, 2025, as the ability to use funds beyond this date is uncertain. Households are urged to plan ahead, budget carefully, and protect their funds from fraud by locking EBT cards when not in use, as stolen benefits will not be refunded.
Resources are available at Be a Neighbor. OKDHS is committed to providing clear communication as further guidance from the USDA becomes available.
