Autonomous commercial vehicles (OHP)
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol say they are training for when autonomous commercial vehicles hit Oklahoma roadways.
In 2019, Oklahoma lawmakers established the framework to allow autonomous vehicles on Oklahoma roads.
Now, OHP says autonomous commercial vehicles could soon become a reality in the Sooner State.
In fact, they say autonomous commercial vehicles could begin operating as early as this June along pre-mapped corridors.
Within the next year, troopers say Oklahomans may begin seeing fully autonomous commercial vehicles without a driver behind the wheel.
Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol hosted a training exercise on how to safety interact with these vehicles during traffic stops and roadway encounters.
They say these vehicles are already operating in nearby states, like Texas.
