New Session, Clear Priorities

A new session is underway, and Oklahoma lawmakers are back to work at the Capitol. The decisions made over the next several months will impact families across our state, from taxes and public safety to government accountability and constitutional rights. I came into this session the same way I did last year, with the clear priorities of defending individual freedom, protecting taxpayers and property, while also ensuring the state government is held accountable.

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak in Mayes County at an event in the district of Rep. Tom Gann. I appreciated the invitation and the chance to visit with engaged conservatives who care deeply about the direction of our state. These conversations matter. Oklahoma is at its best when citizens are informed, involved and willing to speak up for the values that built our communities.

This session, I have filed several pieces of legislation that reflect what I have heard from many Oklahomans.

House Bill 3093, House Bill 3092, and House Joint Resolution 1047 are all aimed at stopping recent pay increases for legislators approved by the Oklahoma Compensation Board. I believe decisions about elected officials’ pay should be handled transparently and with the public fully informed. These measures are intended to restore trust in the process and put taxpayers back where they belong: at the center of government decision-making.

This week, we also welcomed our first House page of the session, Nash Frazier, a junior from Stillwater. Frazier is part of the Stillwater Robotics team and hopes to attend Oklahoma State University to study aerospace engineering. It is encouraging to meet students like him who are motivated and eager to learn. Seeing young people in the Capitol reminds all of us that the work we do today helps shape the future Oklahoma will hand to the next generation.

Even as session begins, I will always remain committed to staying connected to the district. Over the past few weeks, I have enjoyed visiting with constituents. Those conversations are important. They keep me focused on the real priorities of the people I represent, not political distractions.

I also kindly ask you to join me in praying for our state leaders, including every legislator and the legislative staff at the Capitol, that we will have wisdom, clarity and steady leadership in the months ahead. Oklahoma is a strong state with strong people, and I am confident that with faith and resolve, we can keep moving in the right direction.
