Oklahoma voters on Tuesday voiced their opinions on what they had in mind for the future of the state.

Oklahoma voters across the state headed to the polls to vote between Republican Mike Mazzei and Democrat Cyndi Munson to become the next Oklahoma governor.

In August, Mazzei won the Republican nomination after a tight runoff against Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

“I will emphasize that as Governor I will make decisions through three filters: one the Bible, two the Constitution, and I’m a money guy so three can we afford it,” Mazzei said after winning the runoff election.

Munson, the state House minority leader, easily secured the Democratic nomination. She said she hoped her experience in state politics and her work across the aisle would appeal to voters from different parties.

“Serving in the legislature for the last 11 years, my district has always been represented by a Republican until I was elected,” Munson said. “And so, I have been able to bring Republican voters over with me because we talk about things that we have in common. And I think it’s time that we have more balance in state government. So, I welcome their support, of course. And for those who maybe are still on the edge or feel like, oh, I’ve never voted for a Democrat before, I’m happy to have conversations and find a way to earn their support.”

On Tuesday, voters selected Mike Mazzei to be the next Oklahoma governor.
