Herding Bills to the Finish Line

We are in the final stretch. The House has adopted a resolution to Sine Die on Thursday, May 14. That means we will adjourn to the call of the chair on Thursday, May 7, as we work to complete action on all remaining legislation by that date.

There is a possibility we may return the following week to issue any veto overrides from the Governor. There is also a possibility that we might not come back if the Legislature decides not to take any action on the vetoes. If we decide not to take action, the Legislature will automatically Sine Die on May 14.

This final stretch is always fast-paced, as we carefully review and vote on measures that will move forward for the home stretch of the 60th Legislature.

Throughout this process, my focus has not changed. I continue to vote in a way that protects Oklahoma taxpayers and pushes back against wasteful spending. Every vote matters, especially in these final days and I take that responsibility seriously.

While many look forward to the traditional end-of-session events, I remain committed to doing the work. Which means heading home and taking the time to read through each bill in detail so I fully understand what is before me. Oklahomans expect thoughtful, informed decisions, and that is exactly what I aim to deliver.

In other session news, I was honored to attend the Oklahoma Agriculture Youth Council awards ceremony on April 29 at the Capitol, where I presented citations to Madilyn Bishop of Stillwater High School and Kelton Arthur of Ripley High School. These young leaders represent the future of agriculture in our state, and it is encouraging to see their dedication.

The following day, I had the opportunity to speak with the OSU College Republicans in Stillwater. Their thoughtful questions and enthusiasm for public service were a strong reminder that the next generation is ready to step up and lead.

It has been a meaningful and busy time outside of the Capitol as well. On our ranch, my husband Brett and I have welcomed eight new calves in recent weeks. Our cow-calf operation is enjoyable, rewarding and keeps us grounded in the values that matter most.

Thank you for letting me be your voice at the Capitol! I continue to pray for our district and ask that you kindly pray for the Legislature as we work to finish session.

If you ever need me, I am just a phone call or email away! My email address is [email protected], or you can call my office at (405) 557-7304.
