The Blackwell Journal Tribune reports that firefighters from across Kay County responded to a grass fire Sunday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. near 29th St. and Adobe Rd. north of Blackwell. Blackwell Fire Chief Cory Hanebrink said the fire was started by a vehicle’s exhaust system. While the grass was dry enough to burn, the ground was not. Six fire engines were stuck in the mud, and local farmers helped by using large tractors to un-stick the trucks from the mud. Also, some firefighters did take note of social distancing measures in response to the coronavirus.
