Worldwide visitors to the 2028 Olympic events held in Oklahoma City will get a very Oklahoma welcome.

Broken Arrow Police’s Mounted Patrol Unit will be helping out during the canoe slalom and softball events.

Police Chief Lance Arnold said his team is excited to help out for the big event.

“I think when people come to Oklahoma to watch some of the Olympic games, they should expect to see a police officer in a cowboy hat on a horse, especially if they’re coming from outside of the United States,” Arnold told FOX 23’s Rick Maranon.

Chief Arnold said the advantage of having their mounted patrol unit at an event like the Olympics is unmatched.

“They are above the crowd so if you have a large group of people, they are in an elevated position,” Arnold added. “It’s a good engagement piece, too. People love to come up and pet the horses and talk to the officers about it. But it’s also a crowd-mover. We can move through a crowd pretty quickly.”

Chief Arnold said his unit has been used for a variety of purposes, including searching for missing people.
