In its fourth year, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Ponca City, OK is excited to announce the upcoming series of Community Learning Seminars starting this January. These topics are carefully selected, considering current relevant topics and the varied interests of those within the community. Originally designed to bring people together in the cold winter months, the Learning Seminars do bring people together, but also foster interest in current, meaningful issues.
Each topic that is presented is interesting on its own. Participants can learn a lot just by individually reading, listening, or watching the material. But participants will gain two or three times more when the topic is discussed in a small group. Hearing from different viewpoints and experiences makes the topic much more alive and meaningful. Discussions are a wonderful way of getting to know each other.
Running weekly from Tuesday, January 13th, each seminar session will last 1 to 1 ½ hours for small groups of 10 to 12 people. Most sessions will be held every Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Come join us for one or more of these insightful discussions!
The timeliest topic this year will be The Practical Use of Artificial Intelligence. These sessions will begin on January 20 and continue for 4 weeks through February. However, to get the sessions started, on Jan 13, there will be a short, but very meaningful, session on the Rules for a Lasting Marriage- from falling in love to deeper, lasting relationships.
These will be followed by sessions on how to have better, more Meaningful Conversations. Other topics may follow depending on interest and time.
THE PRACTICAL USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: January 20 at 7:00
You’re invited to join our four-part seminar series on the practical use of AI! Each session will guide you through essential skills—from understanding what AI can and can’t do, to learning how to ask effective prompts, evaluate AI-generated information, and integrate these tools into everyday tasks. Whether you’re a complete beginner or just looking to sharpen your skills, this series offers clear, hands-on guidance in a friendly, supportive environment. Come discover how AI can simplify your work, spark creativity, and help you learn more efficiently!
RULES FOR A LASTING MARRIAGE: January 13 at 7:00
There are three rules for a lasting happy marriage. Even with love, marriage takes work. This session reviews marriage from the point of initial attraction to romance and being in love to the compatibility love that hopefully follows. What is important tends to be the qualities of character and concern. Being open to making important memories together often keeps relationships fresh and alive. This will be just a one-week session, but with hopefully a lot of good discussion
BETTER CONVERSATIONS FOR BETTER RELATIONSHIPS AND A BETTER LIFE: February 17 at 7:00
All of us can struggle with difficult conversations, but we’re often not very good at the easy ones either. Most of us overestimate our conversational skills. Conversation is one of the most complex, demanding, and delicate of all human tasks, rife with possibilities for misinterpretation and misunderstanding. And yet conversations can also be a source of great joy, each one offering an opportunity to express who we are and learn who others are—to feel connected, loved, and alive. Conversing a little more effectively can make a big difference in the quality of our close personal relationships as well as our very important social lives. This would be a four-week session.
