The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is partnering with Rosetta Stone to create a new digital platform aimed at preserving and revitalizing the tribe’s language for future generations.

The collaboration, announced Tuesday, will produce an immersive Chahta Anumpa (Choctaw language) course designed with cultural input, authentic recordings and imagery provided directly by tribal members.

The goal, leaders say, is to ensure the language remains a living connection to Choctaw identity and sovereignty.

Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton said the partnership reflects a deep commitment to cultural preservation.

“When we speak Chahta, our ancestors speak through us,” Batton said. “This work strengthens our families, our culture and our identity as Chahta people. It’s an act of love and a promise that our language will endure.”

The Choctaw Nation, the third-largest federally recognized tribe in the United States, includes more than 230,000 citizens.

Its language—central to cultural and spiritual traditions—has faced declining fluency in recent decades, a trend worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tribal officials say expanded access to language learning tools is now critical to maintaining cultural continuity.

The Ranch-based digital program is expected to serve Choctaw citizens across Oklahoma and beyond, including tribal members living throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Rosetta Stone CEO Paul Mishkin said the company is honored to support the revitalization effort.

“Language connects us to family, history and place,” Mishkin said. “Through our Endangered Languages Program, we’re proud to work with the Choctaw Nation to protect not only words, but the cultures behind them.”

The Choctaw Nation continues to invest in revitalization efforts through classes, community programs and apprenticeships.

Tribal leaders say the new digital course will help bring lessons to more citizens, whether they are living in Choctaw Country or far from home.
