The Ponca City Police Department has partnered with Project ChildSafe to provide firearm safety kits to Ponca City Citizens.
Beginning Tuesday, the Ponca City Police Department will provide free firearm safety kits to local residents through a partnership with Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program. The safety kits, which include a gun lock, will be distributed in the front lobby of the Police Station from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, until the kits are gone.
Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), has distributed more than 38 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003. The program receives support from the firearms industry, federal and state grants and from public donations.
By partnering with Project ChildSafe, our agency is participating in a national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners and to prevent tragedies involving children and firearms. Project ChildSafe distributes gun lock safety kits to all 50 states and the five U.S. territories.
Kits will be limited to two per household and they are first-come, first-served. If you choose to come in and get a kit, please inform the ladies in the records window that you are here for a firearm safety kit. They will contact a supervisor who will come down and give you your kit.
