Ponca City and Blackwell residents killed in fatal vehicle collision

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a fatality collision occurred at 1:18 p.m. Friday afternoon in the area of State Highway 11/County Road 970 in Grant County.

The first vehicle involved was driven by Steven Bishop, 78, of Ponca City. He was reportedly injured.

The report notes that there were 3 passengers in the vehicle. Janet Bishop, 78, of Ponca City and Margaret Bishop, 78, of Blackwell were both reported deceased. A third passenger was reportedly injured.

The second vehicle involved was driven by Roscoe Grimes, 35, of Kremlin, Oklahoma. Grimes was reported uninjured.

According to the Highway Patrol’s report, both vehicles were east bound on State Highway 11. Grimes began to make a left turn into a private drive. Bishop attempted to pass Grimes. Grimes saw Bishop’s vehicle passing and turned back into the east bound lane. Bishop also re-entered this lane and collided with the trailer of Grimes’ vehicle. The report notes that seatbelts were in use by all parties.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Kristopher Franta #743 of Troop J.

The Highway Patrol notes that information was reported during the preliminary stages of the investigation and that all information could be subject to change.
