Ponca City – The Otoe-Missouria Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program opens its new location May 1 at 314 N. 5th Street to serve Ponca City families.
The former Albright Insurance Building was purchased by the tribe last year and is the newly remodeled location of the Ponca City WIC Clinic. This is the third building purchase for the tribe’s WIC program, which also owns buildings in Stillwater and Enid.
WIC is a federal program open to all eligible families that provides free healthy foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education and referrals, to support families who meet eligibility requirements.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE NATIVE AMERICAN TO APPLY FOR WIC ASSISTANCE THROUGH THE OTOE-MISSOURIA TRIBE AND THERE IS NO WAITING LIST FOR SERVICES.
Pregnant, recently pregnant, and breastfeeding women, infants and children under 5 years old are eligible for WIC benefits if you meet income guidelines. Caregivers including dads, grandparents and foster parents may apply for children under five in their care.
Free healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, baby food, milk, eggs, beans, cheese and more, provide needed nutrition for children in the WIC program. Should your baby need specialized formula, the Otoe-Missouria WIC is able to order that for participants.
Nutrition education is also available through WIC to give families personalized tips on healthy eating, meal planning and resources from nutritionists, dietitians, nurses and other skilled staff.
Additionally, WIC offers breastfeeding support through one-on-one consultation with staff skilled in breastfeeding support who can give you helpful tips and answer your questions.
If you or your family needs additional resources, WIC can help you find and connect with medical, dental and mental health care, along with other community-based services.
