WASHINGTON (TNND) — According to a new report from conservative watchdog group ‘Defending Education,’ the nation’s two largest teachers’ unions have poured tens of millions of dollars into far-left political organizations. The group looked at about two years worth of contributions (2022-2024) from the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, finding the two unions spent a combined $43.5 million to fund left-wing groups.
Teachers exist to educate. They don’t exist to indoctrinate. So when their unions spend their union dollars on these political causes, we have a great deal of concern with that,” said Sarah Parshall Perry, Defending Education’s Vice President and Legal Fellow.
Launched about 4.5 years ago, Defending Education is a national grassroots organization working to restore schools at all levels from what they say are activists imposing harmful agendas.(TNND)
Comprised of teachers, students, and parents dedicated to the preposition that every American school kid deserves a high quality, value neutral education,” Perry said.
The report found the AFT gave over $14 million to leftwing organizations. The NEA, nearly $29 million. Including a combined $9.3 million to the “For Our Future Action Fund.”
That is a liberal PAC that is dedicated specifically to electing Democrats in swing states,” Perry said.
Some other notable contributions from the AFT include $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation and multiple groups focusing on left-wing political candidates like the Democratic Governors Association and Senate Majority PACs. As for the NEA, the report found $500,000 went to Future Forward USA Action and over $600,000 to Democracy Alliance.
On the NEA’s website, it lists seven core values that define its mission to advocate for education professionals. They include equal opportunity, democracy, professionalism and collective action.
