As America approaches the 100th anniversary of Route 66, new projects are underway to build landmarks along the route in Oklahoma.

On Friday, the Oklahoma City Arts Commission will vote on whether to approve a permanent display titled ‘Kicks 66’ by local artist Cameron Eagle.

The art installation would be a 30 to 35-foot-tall, LED neon festooned bright red cowboy boot with “Oklahoma City Looks Mighty Pretty” on it. The line is from the famous Bobby Troup song, ‘Get Your Kicks on Route 66!’

The art installation would be placed in the triangular grassy median at NW 25th and Classen.

If the OKC Arts Commission approves the design, it will then head to the planning department’s design review committee for approval, before then heading to the Oklahoma City Council for a vote.

Route 66, also known as the ‘Mother Road’, first opened in November 2026, connecting Chicago to Santa Monica, California.

There are several landmarks on the route in Oklahoma, including the Catoosa Blue Whale and the Arcadia Round Barn.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission has also played a part in adding new landmarks to the route to commemorate the famous highway’s centennial, including a retro sign in Luther and a monument in Oklahoma City on NW 23rd and Hudson.
