A Blackwell police officer has been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery for alleged excessive use of force during an inmate’s booking.

Bobby Giles allegedly slammed someone in handcuffs during the booking process. Blackwell Police Department officials said that they were made aware of it on April 21 and immediately placed him on administrative leave.

The case was turned over to the district attorney’s office, which decided to file a charge against Giles. He’s due back in court on Sept. 17.
