Lawton woman arrested in shooting death

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) – Police in Lawton say a man is dead and a woman is in custody following a shooting on the city’s northwest side.

Police told reporters that Joseph Higgins died Tuesday night at a Lawton hospital where he was taken following the shooting at his home. A woman who also lived at the home was later arrested on a second-degree murder complaint, but has not been formally charged.

Police say the woman told officers that she and Higgins were fighting and that Higgins picked up a gun, so she picked up a gun as well and was waving it when she accidentally shot Higgins.
