Law Enforcement Vehicles Burglarized, Four Weapons Stolen

Car break-ins in the middle of the night taken to the extreme, as two law enforcement vehicles have their windows smashed and firearms stolen.

It’s a truck that with big bold lettering that clearly indicates ‘this is a police vehicle,’ but nevertheless it was hit by thieves.

“In front of my own home while we were asleep,” said Wagoner Deputy Police Chief TD Ponds. He says he received calls from folks in his neighborhood about having their vehicles broken into, only to discover he was a victim as well, with a broken window and three weapons stolen.

“They stole a AR-15 rifle and two 12-gauge shotguns,” he said.

Ponds says they have leads and think juveniles were the culprits.As to why someone would risk breaking into a cop car?

“I don’t know if you could say it was brave or stupidity, but it happened. And it’s happening everywhere,” he said.

And sure enough, just up the road in Pryor…

“It’s crazy you know, those people that are doing that stuff don’t care,” said Pryor Creek Police Chief Jeremy Cantrell. His department responding to calls of four vehicles burglarized including…

“One of them belonged to a Delaware county deputy that lived here in town, they stole a shotgun out of his car,” he said.

So far none of the weapons have been recovered but there is optimism.

“We’ve got leads up until probably 15 minutes ago I had someone else give me a call,” said Ponds.

Crime fighters targeted by thieves themselves, with a double dose of advice on how to avoid losses yourself.

“We just suggest that you take your valuable out of your car, don’t leave any weapons in the car or anything of any value because if they break in and there’s nothing there they’ll go onto the next,” said Cantrell.

“Anything of value out of your car, even if it’s not a patrol car. You need to remove it from your vehicle because they’re out there,” said Ponds.
