Keep Your Pets Safe During an Eclipse

A Solar Eclipse is sure to raise some excitement, but it’s important we don’t forget about our pets.
Many pets might experience anxiety from the extra excitement in the air, some may be startled by the sudden darkness outside, and some may not react at all.
Here are a few steps you can take to prepare your pets for the big day:
1. Keep your pets inside. People and pets are at risk of burnt retinas if we stare directly at the sun. We are all at higher risk during the eclipse. Keeping your pet inside is the easiest way to keep them from looking at the sky.
2. Play calming music or pet tv. If your pet is overwhelmed by the fuss of the day, playing music or giving them a distraction is sure to help.
3. Offer puzzle toys. Keep your pet busy by encouraging them to work through their stress. Try taking their favorite treat and rolling a few in a towel. For the smarter pets, tie the towel in a loose knot. Your pet will have so much fun freeing their treats.
Have a great Eclipse everyone!
