Jill Jackson Named Wildcat of the Week

Beverly Cantrell - September 19, 2021 5:58 pm

The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week #2 for the 2021-2022 school year was presented to Po-Hi senior Jill Jackson.

Superintendent Shelley Arrott said, “Jill represents herself, her school and her community as a perfect example of how to live the Wildcat Way so she is an excellent choice for this week’s Wildcat of the Week award. Jill demonstrates fantastic leadership skills and it is so apparent in all the activities in which she is involved. Jill is the captain of the Po-Hi Steppers and her coach, Ms. Smith, said she is responsible, kind, genuine, so very talented and is one of the best captains she has ever had during the 30 years she has been the coach.”

“In addition, she is also the vice president of the Po-Hi Student Council where she uses her leadership skills to help guide STuCO to plan activities that inspire the entire student body to have Wildcat School Spirit and overall Wildcat Pride. Jill also plays tennis and was a member of the Academic State Champion team last year. She also participates in concurrent enrollment with NOC at the University Center. Although she is very busy with her activities and studies, Jill is a great friend and takes the time to go out of her way to be kind to others and treat everyone with respect. Jill supports and encourages her teammates and classmates to put forth their best effort in all that they do. She truly is that Wildcat student who wants everyone to succeed!”

“Jill, you are the perfect example of what it means to be a Wildcat! A real Wildcat is fiercely protective of their own. When I see you leading your fellow Wildcats to success, I see you oozing with Wildcat pride and confidence, which are amazing traits for student leaders of our school, and your efforts to protect and defend your fellow Wildcats while exhibiting such great sportsmanship are greatly appreciated. Culture and pride are so important to develop and promote a school atmosphere that leads students to be successful not only during their school years but for the rest of their lives. Little eyes are always watching, and I am so proud that our younger Wildcats have such a great role model to look up to.”

“I know you plan on attending the University of Arkansas upon graduation, but I was so thrilled to hear that you are highly considering a career in education. You will make an excellent educator because you have that heart for helping others succeed. When I asked you what area you would like to focus on as an educator, you told me you would really like to do what I do. That literally made my heart swell with pride because NO ONE ever says they would like to be the superintendent. In fact, most people say there is no way they would want my job. You will make an excellent school superintendent because I know kids will be your TOP priority, and you have the work ethic, drive, and leadership skills to make a difference for any group of students you represent! I am so very proud of you and how you represent our school and our community with such class and fortitude, even during tough times. Thanks for ‘holding that line’ for the Wildcats of Ponca City!”

The “Wildcat of the Week” Award is sponsored by Heather Cannon Honda. The award is for a deserving high school student who follows the characteristics of the Wildcat Way which are Work Ethic, Improve, Leadership, Discipline, Compete, Attitude, and Teamwork. These characteristics may be exhibited in any setting and is open to all Ponca City High School students.
